2011- A year to Remember

The title was shamelessly altered and copied from a english movie I like much. So how is the christmas and new year celebrations going for me. To be frank, it sucks. This is the worst christmas and the new year I ever had!!!. It was really boring. I kept watching movies back to back from morning to night for past 3 days including the new year. I am writing this post from a swedish dungeon at evening 4 pm and its really dark and cold here. Did you note that, 4pm!!!! This is one big reason I dont like this place much, the darkness. The nights are very chilly, the wind is very aggressive, and it is very lonely. The sea here is dead calm (almost land locked) with almost no breeze. The dominant color in the nature mostly becomes yellow towards the end of summer when the leaves start falling. It reminds me of downfall and depression. When the leaves are totally out, the trees look totally lifeless. Nature becomes totally void of emotions But I should say that the swedish people are very kind, honest and noble. Its fun to talk with them. I guess, maybe I miss my home really bad.

2011 is possibly the most dramatic of all the years in my life to the date, personally and professionally. 6 months of it were spent in a foreign country, I found (read as rediscovered) some one with whom I have fallen in love and have to decided to share my life with (more on that in a later post), and most importantly, I learned a lot, again mostly personally and a bit professionally. Now this last statement is something I always make every year. But believe me, this time it is really big. (even this, I repeat every year ). I happily say to myself, I am a more matured man than I was in the previous year. May be this is what life is all about. The twists and turns, the surprises out of the blue, those tiny moments which you wish to last for an eternity, those even tiny moments which you wish you never existed. Its really funny. In the end, you learn a lot. I love my life and love to be what I am.

Last 6 months in sweden was like a wake up call. I got enough time to ponder over many details of my life which I never cared about. I tried to learn about God, which was a futile attempt. I am still a spineless atheist. I tried to learn how to play piano (online), another futile attempt. I tried to read platos philosophical ‘Republic’, never got past 20 pages. Its something one should read in the evening of their lives when they have nothing else to do, not in the dawn. I tried to learn cooking, and I figured out I cant even distinguish the simple vegetables. I took 10 hrs to make 3 chappathies. I am the most horrible cook one can be. I became a non vegetarian(again) which I plan to change back after going back to India (though my mom is angry about that). I am going to miss some of the swedish food here. I bought a new laptop which am already loving like the previous one. Few days back, I visited a museum. They have brought up a ship which was lying in the sea floor for about 300 years!! and set up a museum for that. The care that the swedes take to preserve their history and heritage is amazing. Our culture and civilization is more older and richer than them. Still we dont give a damn, do we? . I would say this was the year, I became more close to my mom. Probably because of the geographical distance between us. Now we are very good friends, more than that mother-son relation. I guess you learn more about people you love in their absence. Sweden was a total experience. I love it because I would not have learned more about me if I had not come here. I hate it, because I want to go back. :):)

Let me just give an idea about how the first half of the 2011 went out. The first 6 months of this year was not as eventful as the others. My comprehensive exam, (something every phd student should take in iisc) was on March 30th and I cleared it. Soon I applied for a visa at swedish embassy delhi , and waited for about 3 months!!! This 3 months were spent very well. I spend 1 month of it with my family. I went out to visit many of my friends in different parts of south India. It was really good. The first 3 months were mostly spent on preparing for the comprehensive.

So thats how 2011 went for me. A really eventful year!!

I have decided to convert this blog into my personal one. The posts in this blog written by others will stay as such. But the authors and editors of this blog will be removed from their roles. So that it becomes solely my blog. It really feels good when I go through the previous posts in this blog as it contains some of the past college life. So I will continue to post some updates regarding all our classmates if I find them amusing.

I think most of you (if any of you are reading this) can more or less appreciate this decision. I don’t see any relevance for a blog for the entire class. More over I have been thinking about a personal blog for sometime. This was my first blog and I think now I want it to be my blog.

I was giving a lot of thought about posting this pic. Seeing a lot of activity from Sithara for last few days in the blog inspired more. (She wud be hitting her head in the wall now ). Look at the photo. Its one among few of the funniest moments in their engagement. Gunda, Sithu (as he calls her, if he don’t mind ), his parents all of them are posing for the snap and in btw gunda tells something to his dad and some one shoots the snap.

LONG TIME !!!

After a long time of silence, (its not as if it was intended, reasons?? 1) I was lazy 2) I was even more lazy) I decided to write. What was stopping me from writing here?, well nothing, I won’t say I had heavy hectic work that didn’t even give time to take a long breath, it was utter laziness from my part. I don’t even know whether anyone reads this blog anymore, but I know many of you who loved this whole idea, and kept asking me why it is not alive nowadays, kk, for all those people , I am going to start writing again. Well, I don’t promise to be regular, I will try to be regular, and another thing!!, earlier I used to have at least 5 re-editings on each draft, now onwards I will just write whatever comes to my mind and will just publish it. I am stopping polishing.

So let’s start afresh, what all things happened with AM105ECE in past year (I lost the count of months), the first thing that comes to mind is matrimonial related, who married? and who got engaged?

MATRIMONIAL

Girls–

1) Anisha got married to Ratheesh. (which is already published in this blog.)

2) Sithara Kannan got engaged to Vineeth Menon.

3) Deepthi got engaged to Sabarish (funny thing, I always get his name in my mind as ambarish, sorry deepthi , hope you don’t mind)

Boys–

1) Vineeth Menon got engaged to Sithara Kannan

So that’s with the matrimonial things. Congrats!! to gunda (Vineeth Menon in the above list) and Sithara Kannan on their engagement, Wish you a gr8 life ahead.

I will try to get the pics of the above functions and post in the blog with the permission of the concerned people (am i too formal??, may be because am writing too many reports here )

GET TOGETHER

There was a get-together function held at cochin in a ‘BOAT’ (pattar arranged for it) on August 21 ( am not sure about the dates), participation was not that good, as most of the people out of kerala were not able to attend with the exception of bnglr guyz, still i guess it went on good for every one.

Now the interesting things are about the new job placements and other things, which I think we should have a separate Google document. Thats all I can recollect for the past year, Will try to keep this blog updated, atleast with my own personal experiences

1) His new hairstyle may be attributed to his ‘IGNORANCE’ ..why ??

He went to the barbershop of a PORTUGUESE… he tried to explain the style he wanted…bARBeR understood nothin…. He cropped up and cropped and finally thats what you see—————————->

2) He wants to come back to india.. y ? Wants to eat IDLI DOSA AND SAMBHAR… strange BUT true..

3) He has Ruined the name of AMRITA football ( Maybe i should call it Indian Football).. He plays as the defender in beach football for a EUROPEAN club union… A dedicated FOULER, AGGRESSIVE HITTER..oops i forgot the football Part.

4) He definetly wants to MARRY ONLY an INDIAN girl… (Before going .. it was the other way round) Reason ??

Better ask him directly..

5) Finally , As a responsible research student he wants his pay to be hiked.. RIO is a very costly region so much so that he has to make food on his own.. He doesnt have enough money..But you just thought the rong way… Not for food ..But for Partying….. Atleast thrice a week .

Classes start from March 1st Its a fully funded Research Programme . The good part is its funded and he is gonna get a good JOb AFTER dat..
The bad news is he wont be back anytime soon (2.5 years he says) ..

TV(only applicable to the cricket maniac)… the temperature here in the mornin is around 15 deg…so its really a mind blowing experience havin a bath in ice water at 6 in the mornin….. gals as usual are rich!! so dnt havto worry abt thier food n stuff..

but without ne money us guys dnt hav the most basic thing of a guy’s life—-
